Heavy Duty Canvas

Finding A Heavy Duty Canvas Tarp: The Right Size, At The Right Price

There are several suppliers of cotton canvas tarps, but finding a specific size, weight, and at the right price is not so easy.

The most commonly available fabric is the 10 oz and 12 oz canvas tarp, and most are treated for mildew and water resistance. This protective finish will add 6-8 ozs more per square yard of fabric. You can also choose cotton tarpaulins that have been specially treated to be flame retardent.

There are some good suppliers online, but for most part, thesimple canvas tarp is not a lead item. So it is often relegated to the hard-to-find pages of the 'catalog'. A shopper often has to spend several minutes just searching for the right type and size.

Canvas Tarp Size Availability

There are several good sources for the small canvas tarps, including your local hardware store. But larger sizes can be found online, and are good choices for use as tent tarps or painters tarps

The following 'size-finder' chart should help you save you consider time. It gives you a quick reference to sizes provided by two of the canvas tarp suppliers we recommend.

Northern Tool

The tan canvas tarp from Northern is 100% canvas duck, and comes in weights of 16 oz or 12 oz per square yard before treating.

The center seam is double-stitched, and the grommets are reinforced every 2-3 feet on the sides and at the corners.

Do a search for "canvas tarp" on their site.

Some people try to use standard canvas tarp to cover their cars, boats, and trucks. But for several reasons, this is not a good idea. You can get some helpful guidelines for vehicle covers here. Or take a look at the specific section on car covers for recommendations.
